“Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities” project is being implemented with a view of creating a National Database for PwDs, and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disabilities. The project promotes transparency and makes it easier for people with disabilities to access government benefits without any hassle.

Introduction about UDID cards

Unique Disability Identity cards[UDID] are issued to Persons with Disabilities through competent medical authorities notified by respective State Governments/Union Territories. The project aims to encourage transparency, efficiency in the system of delivering the government benefits to the person with disabilities. If you have a disability, you can apply for a UDID ID card to access government benefits. This card helps you get the support and services you need. It makes it easier to prove your disability and access various schemes without carrying multiple documents..

The UDID Card offers many benefits to persons with disabilities:

Note-; There is no difference between UDID card and Disability Cards. The ID card uses details from the disability certificate. Once it’s given, the state or region is notified about the services for disabled people.
Additionally, the UDID card will help track the progress of beneficiaries at all levels, from local villages to the national level.

Who Can Apply

As per the Persons with Disabilities Act of 1995, you can get a card if you have one of the following disabilities:

Disability Type	Description
Blindness	Total blindness or severe vision loss (visual acuity lower than 6/60 or 20/200 in the better eye, or very limited field of vision).
Low Vision	Impaired vision even after receiving treatment like glasses or surgery.
Cerebral Palsy	A condition affecting movement and coordination due to brain damage during pregnancy, birth, or early childhood.
Mental Retardation	Below-average intelligence due to incomplete mental development.
Mental Illness	Any serious mental health condition, except for mental retardation.
Hearing Impairment	Hearing loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear, affecting normal conversation.
Leprosy Cured	Cured of leprosy but still have loss of feeling or movement in hands, feet, eyes, or eyelids, with deformities or weakness, yet able to do regular activities.
Locomotor Disability	Difficulty moving limbs, joints, muscles, or bones, often caused by conditions like cerebral palsy.

 

Process For Applying

Documents required with online application:

Document	Description
Recent Photo	Scanned color photo (jpeg, jpg, png; 5 KB to 100 KB; size less than 800px).
Signature (Optional)	Scanned signature (jpeg, jpg, png; 3 KB to 30 KB).
Aadhaar	Aadhaar card (mandatory as per August 8, 2023 notification).
Identity Proof	Scanned copy of ID proof (e.g., Passport, Voter ID).
Address Proof	Scanned copy of address proof (e.g., Aadhar, Driving License).
Disability Certificate	Scanned copy of Disability Certificate (only for those with a valid one).

After all the document verification your UDID will be applied and you will get your receipt of verification.  After some days you can also download your E-UDID Card online.
