Indira Gandhi National Disability Scheme Financial Support for Disabled Persons

This scheme is beneficial only for the person who id more than 80% disabled
Indira Gandhi National Disability Scheme was started in February 2009 by the Central Government’s Ministry of Rural Development to help disabled people in India.
This scheme is a part of the National Social Assistance Program and provides a monthly pension to support disabled individuals in living a better life.
Any disabled person who is 18 years or older, has 80% or more disability, and belongs to the poverty line can apply for this scheme.
Benefits of the Scheme For Disabled Persons
- Disabled people (Divyangjan) aged 18 to 79 years get a monthly pension of ₹300.
- Disabled people (Divyangjan) aged 80 years and above get a monthly pension of ₹500.

To get benefits from this scheme, the disabled person must meet these conditions:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be a resident of India
- Must have a physical or mental disability
- Disability must be more than 80%

How to Apply Online
Applying for this scheme is simple and easy. Just follow these steps:
One can download UMANG App or visit website
Login using your mobile number and OTP.
- Search for “NSAP” in the portal.
- Click on “Apply Online”.
- Fill in your basic details and choose how you want to receive your pension.
- Upload your photo and click “Submit”.
How To Apply Offline
Once you submit your application, here’s what happens next:
- Where to Submit?
- People in villages can submit their application at the Gram Panchayat / Block Office.
- People in cities can submit it at the Municipality / Municipal Council.
- Verification Process
- A Verification Officer checks the details to confirm if you are eligible.
- Based on the verification, the officer recommends approval or rejection with reasons.
- Community Review
- In villages, the list of applicants is discussed in the Gram Sabha or panchayat.
- In cities, it is discussed in the Ward Sabha / Area Sabha before final approval.
- Approval Process As A Disabled Person
- If there is a delay in the decision by the Gram Sabha / Ward Sabha, the Verification Officer directly submits the recommendations to the Sanctioning Authority.
- Once approved, the applicant gets a Sanction Order as confirmation.
- Getting Your Pension As A Disabled person
- Every approved person gets a Pension Passbook with details of the pension amount and payments.
- The pension is directly sent to the applicant’s bank or post office account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- The list of pension beneficiaries is displayed at the Gram Panchayat / Municipal Office and updated every three months.

Documents Needed to Apply
To apply for this scheme, you need the following important documents:
- BPL Card – Proof that you belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
- Aadhaar Card – For identity verification.
- Age Proof – You can use a birth certificate or school certificate.
- If these are not available, a ration card or EPIC (Voter ID) can be used.
- If no valid document is available, a Government Medical Officer can issue an age certificate.
- Disability Certificate – You must have a disability certificate (80% or more) issued by a Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Community Health Centre, or Primary Health Centre.
- Passport Size Photographs – Required for your application form.
Ways to Receive Your Pension
You can get your pension money in the following ways:
- Bank Account – The amount is directly transferred to your bank.
- Post Office Account – You can receive the pension in your post office account.
- Postal Money Order – The money is sent to you through a postal money order.
- Cash in Hand – In some cases, the pension can be given in cash.
