Introduction

Sixteen-year-old Jyoti from Ellenabad is an extraordinary girl with a heart full of determination and dreams.

Born with one leg shorter than the other, she faced challenges from a young age,

but she never let her disability define her. Instead, she turned her struggles into strength and pursued her passion for sports.

Today, Jyoti is not just a student but a national and international para-sports champion.

With 12 medals in shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw,

she has shown the world that no obstacle is too big when you have the courage to fight and the will to succeed.

Early Years: Turning Struggles into Strength

Jyoti, a Class X student at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Odhan, always had a passion for sports. Walking was a challenge for her,

but she refused to give up. Using a prosthetic leg gave her the freedom to explore athletics.

In April 2022, her life changed when she was selected for a special camp for disabled athletes in Haridwar,

organized by the Aditya Mehta Foundation. Her natural talent in shot put and discus throw was quickly recognized,

and she was chosen for advanced training at the foundation’s Hyderabad center.

A Champion Emerges: Jyoti’s Successes

Jyoti’s hard work in disability sports paid off in 2023, making her a gold medalist in para sports.

• State-Level Games in Rohtak: Gold medals in shot put and javelin throw.
• National-Level Competitions in Gujarat: Gold in shot put and silver in javelin throw.
• International Event in Thailand: Silver medals in shot put and javelin throw, and a bronze in discus throw.

Her winning streak continued in 2024:

• National Competitions in Bangalore: Silver medals in shot put and discus throw.
• International Games in Thailand: A dream come true—gold in javelin throw and silver in discus throw.

Staying Grounded and Focused

Despite her fame, Jyoti remains humble and determined. After her international win in Thailand, she said, “Next time, I will bring home more gold medals.”

Her coach, Vinu Koti, has been her pillar of strength, always reminding her to stay confident and work hard.

Alongside sports, Jyoti is equally committed to her studies.

She is preparing for her Class X exams in February 2025, while training for the Dubai International Games and other upcoming competitions.

Support from Family and School

Jyoti’s father, Vijaypal, couldn’t be prouder. He says, “At first, we weren’t sure how she would manage, but after her first gold medal,

we realized she could achieve anything.”

Her principal, Lalit Kalra, adds, “Jyoti has shown extraordinary strength and balance between education and sports.

We believe she will make the country proud by winning gold at the Paralympics one day.”
