Kerala Rape Case: 38-Year-Old Woman with Intellectual Disability Brutally Rapped

In our country, we hear about different kinds of rape cases almost every day.
In a heartbreaking incident from Malappuram, Kerala, a 38-year-old woman with an intellectual disability was
allegedly raped by over eight men. The accused include neighbors and distant family members, making
the crime even more shocking.
The case came to light when the woman’s brother filed a police complaint. Despite the police
registering an FIR on January 4, none of the accused have been arrested so far. The survivor’s
family says they are being threatened to withdraw the complaint.
Legal Charges Filed
The Kerala Police have charged the accused under the following sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC):
- Section 376(2)(n): Repeated rape of the same woman.
- Section 406: Criminal breach of trust.
- Section 506: Criminal intimidation.
The case is being investigated by Kondotty DySP KC Sethu.
Details of the Crime
According to reports:
- First Incident in 2023: The main accused and another man took the woman to Manjeri. She was assaulted in a lodge in Areekode.
- Second Incident: Two months later, the same accused took her to a lodge in Mananthavady, Wayanad, where she was assaulted again.
- Further Exploitation: After these incidents, the woman was reportedly handed over to other men, who also assaulted her.
The family also reported that the accused stole 15 sovereigns of gold from the survivor.
Family’s Plea for Justice
The woman’s family alleges that the accused took advantage of her mental condition.
They fear more people could be involved in this horrifying crime. The family has
urged authorities to take swift action and ensure justice for the survivor.
